UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while other scenes show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
