The vaping numbers are an approximation since some countries - 109 in total, and several in African and Southeast Asia - lack data.

According to the analysis, as of this past February this year, at least 86 million e-cigarette users were adults, mostly in developed states.

And at least 15 million adolescents aged 13 and 15 currently engage in vaping, according to surveys from 123 nations.

Although several countries have attempted to establish e-cigarette policies to address youth vaping in recent years, by the close of 2024, 62 nations yet had no measure in operation, and 74 states had no age limit at which e-cigarettes may be acquired, states the medical organization.

Simultaneously, tobacco use has been dropping - from an estimated 1.38 billion individuals in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Frequency of tobacco use among females fell the greatest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

For males, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But a fifth of mature individuals globally yet employs tobacco.

Tobacco use is linked to many conditions, such as cancer.
