A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays present a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items emerged over the holidays, and if you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
